I don’t know about you, but I, for one, am extremely happy to be putting 2013 behind me. Although every experience I’ve had, whether good or bad, has led me to where I am today, I still feel that the events in my more recent past have more weight in the present. Hence my eagerness to get this last year as far into my past as possible.
On that note, however, I must stress the importance of staying positive throughout your life. No matter what curveballs are thrown at you, you must always know that you have the strength to overcome them.
For example, as I mentioned in a previous post, a few years ago I managed to pack on a few extra LBs. If you’re anything like me, instant gratification is what keeps you going. Unfortunately, weight-loss does not fall under the “instant success” category. I fought for weeks to even see a smidgen of results. Every day I weighed myself and grew angrier and angrier that I wasn’t seeing any change. My muscles were getting toned and I was in shape, but my waistline wasn’t shrinking and my weight wasn’t budging. Despite all of this, though, I kept on going. I maintained a positive attitude because I knew that eventually my hard work would pay off.
I guess the point of this post is to just stay positive – as often as you can! Despite what obstacles we come across, we can always somehow get around them. Keep your head up and stay motivated. Don’t compare yourself to others, compare yourself to yourself – look at the progress that you’ve made [or haven’t made], and make the effort to be the best you that you can possibly be.
To start off 2014, I have made two vows to myself: 1) to cleanse myself of negative influences and negative people in my life, and 2) to surround myself with more positive influences and experiences. I don’t need a hundred friends or acquaintances. My best friends live 800 miles away from me, but we are constantly in touch and I am content with that. In these two vows, I also hope to grow more as an individual. I’m a pretty independent female as it is, but I’d like to gain even more individuality. And to find more to do in this world that doesn’t cost money [which is becoming EXTREMELY difficult – even if you want to go hiking you have to drive to the location – bring food, gas, etc.]! I am making 2014 all about ME. I will be selfish this year – and nobody can say a damn thing about it! Put yourself first. YOU are important!
People say “time is against you” or that there’s never enough time. All I have to say is, time is on your side! We have an entire year ahead of us to actively make changes and discover new things. If you prioritize right and put yourself before anything else, time will be of the essence. So buy yourself that gorgeous watch and get to working on you!
You’ve got nothing but time.
